THE LAST CITY EPK

The Last City is an Indie Chamber Pop band out of Winston-Salem that combines classical violin, folk-rock arrangements, and pop melodies.

Short Bio

The Last City began in 2012 while Adrien and Lizbet Palmer were living abroad in Hiroshima, Japan. That core duo of an acoustic guitarist and a classically trained violinist, respectively, lived in Dallas, TX, for a decade. There, they expanded, bringing on bassist Lucas Reader. In 2025 they moved to Winston-Salem where they continue to perform primarily as a duo.

Their albums include a self-titled EP, Cinderblock Sessions (their first live album), Willfully Human (fully crowdfunded during Covid and recorded in Boston). They are hard at work on their next album, It Still Amazes Me, which they plan to release on vinyl.  Visit Patreon to learn more.

Extended Bio

The Last City began in 2012 while Adrien and Lizbet Palmer were living abroad in Hiroshima, Japan. While there, the acoustic guitar/violin duo performed extensively, from local bars to house concerts, church services to city festivals. Much of their performance style and arrangements are informed by these experiences of playing for multi-cultural, multi-lingual audiences around the world.

When they returned to their hometown of Columbia, South Carolina in Spring 2015, it was only for a season. 4 months later they were driving a U-Haul with everything they owned to Dallas, TX, a city neither one had ever been to prior to driving across the state line. They started laying down roots, performing locally, buying a house, bringing on bassist Lucas Reader, and getting a dog named Tyler and having a kid. They ended up living in Dallas for a decade, and have since moved to Winston-Salem to be closer to family after the birth of their second child.

In late 2018 they released their first, self-titled, studio LP. Their acoustic roots, accompanied by drums and bass, create an Indie Chamber Pop sound. They draw from such influences as Damien Rice, John Mayer, MGMT, One Republic and The Arctic Monkeys.

Their music is intended to remind us that we are all one. And to encourage the curiosity it takes to fully realize that truth. Emerging from conservative evangelical roots, their lyrics and music draw from that mythology but never did fit that box. They’re currently exploring the wide-open world that was always waiting outside of it.

Patreon is at the core of The Last City’s creative endeavors. Since joining the platform January of 2017, it has been a hub for various projects, from their Year of Music (writing a new song every month for all of 2017), 12 HR EPs (writing three songs from scratch in 12 hours), and various cultural and lingual explorations. Their travels have fostered a curiosity about other cultures and the many different ways of how these interactions can literally change our minds.

They released their first live album in late 2018, Cinderblock Sessions, a recording of their CD release show featuring a full string quartet, they are hard at work on their next project. Their next EP, Willfully Human, was fully crowdfunded. They journeyed to Boston to record the album and released it in 2021. They are hard at work on their next album, It Still Amazes Me, which they plan to release on vinyl.  Visit Patreon to learn more.
